Well, as this website is getting more and more popular, apparently it’s also showing up on spammers’ radar also.
I don’t know how many of you remember back when I even disabled comments for a short period until I could find a suitable solution to combat the spam, I don’t want to do that again!
For a while now I’ve been using an excellent spam filter called Akismet, but I’m concerned that it might be grabbing REAL comments and mistaking them for spam… and since I receive over 1000 spam comments PER DAY I don’t have time to sift through them all and dig out the real ones. I wish I could though.
SO, I’ve decided to implement a spam protection system at the comment level in hopes of reducing the amount of spam going to the filter and thus allowing me to catch the real comments that are being mistaken for spam.
It’s REALLY simple! I’ve even included a screenshot below… all you have to do is answer a VERY BASIC math question and that’s it! No cryptic codes, colours or letters.
The other alternative would be to force registrations which I think sucks.
