The curtain wall

This has to be one of the most desired features of any modern home or flat. It’s also one of the more expensive and impractical (but the view is worth it) features of any home modern home or flat. Usually reserved for commercial installations and ultra modern dwellings, the curtain wall is an absolutely amazing feature that only a very select few have opted to include when building a custom home.

Aside from the outrageously high costs involved, concerns about insulation and lack of privacy are usually issues that pop into most peoples’ heads when considering this sort of feature on their home.

Although these concerns are all valid, no modern home is truly complete without a considerably large glass clad wall! Keeping this in mind, one can always opt for tinted glass to keep out the prying eyes or even vertical blinds but this was kind of defeat the purpose of such a breathtaking feature.

Another common and useful design feature of the curtain wall is the inclusion of large sliding glass doors that open up the living area to the outside which can be a very desirable feature if one has a large patio or deck attached to the home.

From what I’ve seen, German and Austrian firms lead the pack when it comes to producing high quality curtain walls… although it seems the Japanese are also producing some very nice products.
