Old cameras as modern accessories?

With digital cameras as the norm, what do people think of the good old 35mm film camera?

Personally, I like them. In fact I choose the classic 35mm over digital any day. I do have a digital (of course) but I prefer the film cameras… ok, maybe I’m bias (I used to run a photo lab) but I just can’t see myself capturing ALL of my life’s most important and joyful moments exclusively on digital media. I still need a negative. :)

Besides the archival and image quality of film (since 6MP and up can actually have higher resolution) I just like the fact that it’s a REAL camera.

Which brings me to another point, I really like the old ones (like 1970s models)… sure they’re slower and slightly more complicated to use but they’re just so cool and feel so natural, like a real camera SHOULD!

That’s my rant for today (a friend of mine is looking for a 35mm camera so it’s on my mind), any thoughts?

Wouldn’t it be good if someone developed a digital camera insert for SLR’s.

It would look like a 35mm film roll with a rigid piece projecting along the film plane.

    Sounds simple? :)

Why not just make digital cameras that look like the retro SLRs or the 70s? That might actually sell.

    Yeah, you’re right.

Camera makers can simply make re-issues of their old SLR formats with digital innards.

This post inspired me to do some scavenging on ebay and I ended up buying a great Nikon EM for only $20!

    I hope it works. :)

Do you know of anyone who could use an old 35 mm Petri (1957-8), a little Minolta 16 mm of the same vintage and a 50’s Bell & Howell movie camera? I hate to put them in the trash. Maybe they could be used for display purposes? Or in a camera museum?

The camera in the picture is a Nikon F2. The older Nikon cameras (from the 60s, 70s and 80s) are available in the black/metal finish.
