Its lines were defined by the proportions of human body. A very useful piece of furniture, it can serve as eye candy, a bedside table, regular side table, a footrest, etc. Your imagination is all that’s limiting you with this piece.
When you hear the words “lounge chair” what comes to mind? Perhaps the Barcelona? Maybe the classic Eames? Well, for most people it’s probably the iconic LC4 Chaise Lounge by LeCorbusier… and probably the black leather version. Yes, it’s a beauty. I’ve decided to write about the Chaise Lounge today because… I finally broke down and bought one! :) Like most people (I’m assuming here) I’ve been drooling over several classic pieces and admiring them via my computer monitor and various online retailers but yesterday I walked into a local furniture store and there it was, a near perfect reproduction for about the same price as the online stores. In the end I went for the pony hide as I find it considerably more comfortable (yes, I was surprised about that) and it looks much better in real life than in pictures. It should arrive in a couple of days since I didn’t feel like picking it up myself and to my surprise, my wife showed no signs of being upset about the purchase! ;)

REX is a name that most people would associate with our four legged, furry friends… but there’s another REX you need to know about. The REX folding chair, designed in 1952 by Slovenian designer Niko Kralj as a way to bring good design to the masses, the REX chair turned out to be a great success and is still being produced and enjoyed around the world. At about $120 new this chair certainly won’t break the bank and because of it’s high quality construction it’s sure to last for many years. In fact, my wife’s cousin lent us a pair for a small gathering we had last weekend and I’m still trying to come up with a way to convince the missus that we need our own! :) This is one of the few pieces I can whole heartedly recommend to just about anyone because for the price of a cheap Ikea knock-off you can get an original, world class design and quality that will not only look good but also last for decades. It’s without a doubt my pick of the year and a perfect gift for yourself or that design lover in your life. I just wish I featured it in November.

Yesterday at work it occurred to me that my chair was an old piece of crap… Granted, this wasn’t my regular workstation which is only somewhat more ergonomic, but since I was working there I’ll call it mine. Now armed with this knowledge my mind began to wonder… If I could choose any chair, which one would I choose? A fun question don’t you think? Well, despite the lure of the Aeron and other such ergonomic masterpieces, I’ve decided to keep it simple and classy… my choice is the Eames Management Chair. Let’s face it, this is one of the most beautiful, elegant and tasteful office chairs ever. Ergonomics aside, I doubt that anyone would find sitting in one of these all day objectionable. What it lacks in the newest trends and adjustable lumbar supports, it gains in style… and that’s what it’s all about when you really think about it. ;) Your thoughts?
