The other day a friend and I were talking about platform beds (no real reason, I just sometimes talk about furniture)… and then a thought crossed my mind, why is it that people are always putting more effort (and cash) into choosing a bed frame than the mattress?

Ok, you hardly ever look at the mattress so who cares right? I don’t know, I’d think that it’s pretty important considering you sleep on it, the mattress.

Inspired by that thought I decided to “hunt” for mattresses so I could do a comparison post, but since this isn’t really a bedding blog (and I’ve been a bit busy/lazy lately), I decided just to post the one that really grabbed my attention.

It’s the Essentia memory foam mattress and it’s more than just a run of the mill memory foam mattress. They’re custom made, water based, eco-friendly, hypoallergenic, adhesive free memory foam mattresses with a lifetime warranty… and a bit pricey but no doubt top quality. You can see more models and info on the website since I don’t really want to copy+paste their entire website here.

I haven’t seen them featured on other home sites yet so I’m pretty sure Modern Flat is one of the first to cover them… now you know why it’s worth reading my blog from time to time! :)

Good question. What is a bed for but comfort and sleeping? Really. I know some of us use it for other things…and sure we want it to be an attractive piece of furniture in our bedrooms, but a mattress on the floor that helps you sleep like a baby is worth far more than a beautiful bed with a crummy mattress. So, I think investing in the mattress first and then thinking about the bed to go under it is just plain good sense. by the way, if you still want to make it look good, too, I found some gorgeous duvets at [click name for link]. So my bed looks and feels great!
