Much of Poul Kjrholm’s furniture was intended for his own home, located north of Copenhagen and designed by his wife, architect Hanne Kjrholm. His PK22 Easy Chair (1957) was inspired by the light, elegant klismos chair created by the ancient Greeks. With this piece, Kjrholm reduced the chair to three elements: legs, seat and connecting clamps. Inspiration comes from many places, and in the case of Kasper Salto’s Little Friend Table (2005), it was a Disney cartoon character. The “Little Helper” was a humanoid robot with a light bulb for a head who first appeared in 1956 as an assistant to Gyro Gearloose, and sometimes even as an inventor himself.
