Like everything else Gus* Design Group makes, the Nicole Ottoman is clean, classic minimalism–in this case, nine square feet of clean, classic minimalism. The stainless-steel base almost disappears under the button-tufted top, giving you basically a floating, luxurious leather cushion that seems to stretch out forever. You don’t even need a coffee table with this baby; the smooth surface works just as well as a table. (Think how good an Urbana Design serving tray would look on it, though.)

A nicely wrapped gift is an inviting sight: the smooth planes of paper (or aluminum foil–I went through a phase), the keen edges and neatly tucked corners. It could be anything inside there; the possibilities are manifold and exciting. You kind of can’t help but hope when you see a box wrapped up prettily and securely. We think the Blythe Cube from Gus Design Group exudes the same sense of possibility, but maybe in a slightly different way. You’re not really supposed to tear the leather off to see what’s inside; but for as well as the Blythe Cube will fit in to nearly any decorative scheme you might have, it’s kind of like giving your living room (or den, or bedroom, or TV room, etc.) a fantastic, unexpected present.
