COUS

Today I ran across an interesting website, cous.de, and since I enjoyed looking around I figured it would be nice to share it with you all.

They’ve got a lot of very cool furniture and the chairs in particular caught my eye. The chair pictured is the DS, a funky little piece that sort of reminds me of the Bibendum chair, just a bit.

I’m not sure about the price but it’s a nice looking chair none the less.

Is recharging better?

September 12th, 2007

A lot of focus is being put on energy efficiency and going green… and that’s good.

On that note, I see a lot of hints and suggestions being posted on other websites but I haven’t seen much about rechargeable batteries. I know it’s not as exciting as posts about things like solar / hybrid cars, PV solar panels and other cool stuff, but it’s practical.

I’ve always been a fan of rechargeable batteries. If you spend the money up front you get way better (more powerful) batteries and when you look at the lifetime cost of ownership, they’re a whole lot cheaper! I like cheap. :)

And if you like the idea of solar energy, you can get yourself a solar powered battery charger… that way you’re not “grid dependant”. Very modern.

modern clock

While browsing the internet earlier I happened across a few sites selling all sorts of knock offs of iconic modern furniture. I find it interesting to see how some copycats manage to totally butcher the pieces to the point where they are hardly recognizable, and probably not even sellable.

I then decided to find a few nice modern, NON BRANDED items to post here… because you can have a great interior without having to spend a fortune, and not every unbranded piece has to be crap.

This time around I decided to feature a few wall clocks (here). Simple, modern pieces that cost under $100 (from about $50 and up). The best thing about these is that you won’t feel guilty about swapping for something else after… maybe a George Nelson or similar. ;)

Sustainable Accessories

angela adams Kathy Mini Wallet - Rain Stone with Black leather trim

Sustainability is good. It’s especially nice when it’s a consideration for things like personal accessories, home fashions and other semi-disposable items… the type of things that get discarded when they go out of style.

That’s why the Kathy mini wallet from Angela Adams (at Design Public) caught my eye. It’s made of sustainable fabric containing 100% recycled polyester and leather lining.

Besides doing a little bit to preserve the environment and use recycled materials, this wallet is stylish, with several great looking patterns available! Not a bad combination, now if only more people took notice of little things like this.

Barcelona Chair

September 5th, 2007

This is without a doubt my favorite chair of all time for one simple reason, elegance. An original Barcelona chair is so well proportioned, so refined, such high quality that there simply is no other piece of furniture out there to rival it.

The only down side is that owning one is becoming a cliché. It seems that anyone who would like to have a modern looking interior and has some cash will default to the Barcelona chair, even if that’s the only bit of modern kit in the whole place. Not to say that they’re making a poor choice, they’re not… Continue reading…

Scando Table - Perfect for the modern furniture lover

OFFI Scando Table - Oak

All too often modern furniture is just way too expensive for ordinary people… this sucks.

However, once in a while it’s possible to come across a great piece of furniture or accessory that is actually within some reasonable price range, even for those of us who don’t have a fortune to spend on furnishings.

One such item is the Scando Table; a lovely low Continue reading…
