A Good Chair

November 2nd, 2007

Yesterday at work it occurred to me that my chair was an old piece of crap… Granted, this wasn’t my regular workstation which is only somewhat more ergonomic, but since I was working there I’ll call it mine. Now armed with this knowledge my mind began to wonder… If I could choose any chair, which one would I choose? Continue reading…

This caught my eye

Lacquered Eggshell Panel

The other day (after finding the hex tiles) I was surfing the net, looking for interesting tiles, sheets and other interesting items and surfaces that could work well in a modern home… then I came across Robin Reigi and their lacquered panels.

Simply put, these are amazing. I can honestly say that I was (and still am) thoroughly impressed with the look of these panels. They are, believe it or not, lacquered eggshell panels… they’re also expensive (about $50-$90/sq ft) but I think worth the expense to have something so unique and original.

Now I’m not saying that I’d want an entire room clad in this stuff, but I certainly wouldn’t object to using it as a detail, a focal point if you will. What do you think?

Hexagonal Tiles

hex tile

Hex tiles are a great alternative to the classic square mosaic. Facing a bathroom renovation myself in the near future, I’ve been looking at several options and hexagonal tiles are definitely on my list of possible choices.

For those that love mosaics (myself included) this is a great alternative because it gives you the same great look but with a new dimension… the shape of the tile doesn’t really jump out at you right away but it definitely gets noticed.

The only downside is a somewhat poor selection. Classic square mosaic tiles are still the standard and therefore have the best selection of color, sizes, material and quality. That doesn’t mean that you can’t get creative though and mix the two…

Forget your keys

fingerprint scan lock

Are you constantly forgetting your keys and locking yourself out? Or maybe you just hate having to lug around your house keys? OR, maybe you hate having a huge wad of new keys and can’t remember what key is for what lock (this is my current situation)…

Well for $150 - $400 you can get a good keyless lock (like the Q-see fingerprint & keypad lock) and forget those keys for good. The most popular are the keypad models but if I was to buy one, I’d have to spring for the fingerprint scanning locks… for both convenience and the coolness factor. It’s like living in a James Bond film… almost (but without the Bond-Girls and Aston Martin…)

Speaking of Bond, I like the older Bond films… you? Maybe I should find a new DVD or Plasma TV to feature next. :)

Busy bee

October 16th, 2007

While it may seem like I’ve been lazy, not updating the website on a daily basis (like I used to) and so on… that’s not actually the case. In fact I’ve been very busy moving.

A change of residence and a new job have kept me from updating regularly but as things start to settle down I hope to be back in full swing with a whole lot of good ideas and cool products to show on the website.

Until then…

Life really can be good with LG

LG washing machine

We’ve all heard the LG slogan, “Life’s good with LG”… well they might be right! Browsing the Internet and looking at washers, dryers and washer/dryer combos today, I came across a very interesting and stylish washer by LG.

The LG WM2688H is a revolutionary new washer with steam cleaning built in. The steam helps to deep clean your garments and reduces wrinkles. In fact, if you’re in a hurry or don’t feel like ironing, just toss in up to five (5) garments, steam them and in 20 minutes you’re ready to go.With a MSRP of about $1500 it’s a little bit pricey, but not a whole lot more that other regular machines… and it does look great so the price is justifiable. That’s what I’ll keep telling myself at least. :)

The Hardoy Chair

Hardoy Chair
Picture borrowed from Knoll

Another fabulous design classic from the 1930’s. The Hardoy Chair (also known as the Butterfly or BKR chair) was designed by Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy in 1938 and originally produced by Knoll. You’ll notice that the original doesn’t have folding legs… they’re fixed and actually look much better because of it.

This is without a doubt the most widely copied piece of furniture ever (in my opinion) and one of the reasons that Knoll no longer produces these chairs. After losing their claim of copyright infringement, Knoll dropped the chair from its line in 1951.

This chair has won numerous design awards and while I don’t know where to find an original, you can find a decent knock off on ebay for about $250… leather. Not bad, even for an unlicensed reproduction.

Living with style…
