Mmm… Egg… Chair!
Arne Jacobsen’s classic Egg Chair is simply gorgeous, and to some, even delicious.
No matter what your taste (please excuse the pun) this is pure chic! Designed 50 years ago (1958) it’s still as modern and fashionable as ever. The egg chair can be ordered in leather and wool upholstery to better suit your décor and your budget (the leather version is about $10k and the upholstered version will run you about $5k). Well as much as a $5k chair can fit your budget… in either case I’m sure you can always keep an eye open for an ebay auction or a good knock-off for less.
It’s pretty amazing to think that this chair was originally intended for furnishing public places… commercial areas and the like. Imagine finding a row of these at the airport lounge instead of those less than sexy molded foam seats.
The egg chair like many fashionable pieces has an aluminum base, swivels and even reclines. It can easily be the focal point of any room and at the same time provide total privacy by simply turning it around and separating yourself, not too hard to do when the entire chair just wraps around you.
Another piece of classic Danish design… delicious is definitely the right word.

I wouldn’t knock airport seating too hard.

Very nice…
If only more public places would adopt this style of seating, and design in general.
To be honest, I don’t even mind the moulded plastic seats from the 70s… it’s the ugly foam ones that I can’t stand, especially when they get dirty and worn!
Good find by the way.
