When you hear the words “lounge chair” what comes to mind? Perhaps the Barcelona? Maybe the classic Eames?

Well, for most people it’s probably the iconic LC4 Chaise Lounge by LeCorbusier… and probably the black leather version. Yes, it’s a beauty.

I’ve decided to write about the Chaise Lounge today because… I finally broke down and bought one! :)

Like most people (I’m assuming here) I’ve been drooling over several classic pieces and admiring them via my computer monitor and various online retailers but yesterday I walked into a local furniture store and there it was, a near perfect reproduction for about the same price as the online stores. In the end I went for the pony hide as I find it considerably more comfortable (yes, I was surprised about that) and it looks much better in real life than in pictures.

It should arrive in a couple of days since I didn’t feel like picking it up myself and to my surprise, my wife showed no signs of being upset about the purchase! ;)

Oh it’s quite easy to see why you easily succumb to the temptation of buying such a lounge chair. It is perfect and such a beauty.

The chair is absolutely timeless and comfortable to boot.

Do you care to share what you paid for the reproduction piece? I ask because i’ve found good local resources for reproduction pieces from Nelson, Bertoia and others however I haven’t really seen a good resource for this chaise. Thanks!

Hi, am vicariously getting a rush from your successful purchase :-)…I’m also on the lookout for a well-made LC4 repro but am reluctant to go the Cassina-route as they’re upwards of $3,000. If you wouldn’t mind, pls tell me where you bought yours and what you paid for it, and…enjoy!

First off, the chair is AMAZING!

I paid about $1300 for it (taxes incl.) and couldn’t be happier. I bought mine in Belgrade (Serbia) but it’s from Italy… not that that matters if you’re ordering from the US, you’ll need to find a good reseller closer to home.

The only “problem” I have with this chair is that I can’t lounge for more than 15 minutes without falling asleep. :)

A great reproduction of the LC4 can be found at The Sofa Company in Santa Monica. There is an example in the showroom and they ship everywhere in the country. You can even pick your fabric!

Is that lc4 black/white/AND brown repro from the sofa company in santa monica exactly detailed like the cassina pieces or do you think it’s the cheap brown/white black/white only you find on ebay… ? :\

I have an LC4 that was purchased from DWR. It is in excellent shape and I am looking to sell it. It was 1600 new. DWR actually quit selling them because they raised the prices up over 3000. I am looking to sell my for 1100. If anyone is interested feel free to e-mail me Photonsrfun@hotmail.com
