Eames is a name that has become synonymous with bent plywood furniture and although their most famous furniture pieces are based on plywood as the main structural component, there are other pieces that don’t.

This Aluminum Chair is a perfect example. It’s a gorgeous piece of furniture, but most people wouldn’t be able to tell you who designed it! That’s a real shame because I think Charles and Ray Eames created some of the most beautiful furniture of the past century.

Back to the Aluminum Chair… As stated above, it’s a departure from their plywood based furniture. The frame is cast aluminum with a five point “star” swivel base. The Seat is “slung” over the frame, following it’s contour and providing an ample seating area (even for those of us who aren’t “small”). Quality is of course beyond that of most furniture you’ll come across today.

A great iconic piece!
