Don’t you just love those iconic pieces of furniture that adorn every 3rd page of just about every design magazine? Don’t you just hate the prices? Yah, me too…

No matter how much I love Barcelona chairs, I just can’t see myself paying $5k for an original piece. The same goes for coffee tables and just about anything else.

Ok, I’m not saying they’re not worth it; they are… if you’re loaded. I’m not. So that got me thinking about Ikea (don’t laugh).

Once in a while I’ll browse their website and check out what’s going on and often times I’m surprised at how similar a lot of the Ikea pieces are to the iconic designer ones. I’ll admit there is a significant difference in quality and refinement but all in all, it’s a great alternative for us poor folks.

This time around I’ve decided to compare a few tables and lamps available at IKEA and DWR (high end modern furniture store). The results are to the left along with a few pics.
