Hexagonal Tiles
Hex tiles are a great alternative to the classic square mosaic. Facing a bathroom renovation myself in the near future, I’ve been looking at several options and hexagonal tiles are definitely on my list of possible choices.
For those that love mosaics (myself included) this is a great alternative because it gives you the same great look but with a new dimension… the shape of the tile doesn’t really jump out at you right away but it definitely gets noticed.
The only downside is a somewhat poor selection. Classic square mosaic tiles are still the standard and therefore have the best selection of color, sizes, material and quality. That doesn’t mean that you can’t get creative though and mix the two…

A great alternative to the classic square and rectangle shapes that dominate our bathrooms.

We just re-did our bath and we also used the hexagon shape - but we found in stunning natural slate. We found a line of slate tile that came if 4 different hues (we picked the darkest w/ dark grey, rust, purplr, brown, etc) we used charcol colored grout…and if I must say so myself it came out stunning! The tile was $12.99/sf which is not bad for natural slate. Shop around at tile stores. The Home Depots of the world will not have a good selection. Our house was built in 1790 so lots of uneven surfaces so the small hexagon tile was perfect for the uneven floors and we did not have to put in a new sub floor. Go for it! It will look awesome!

That’s great, I’m glad it turned out good… hex tiles look fantastic even as plain white ceramics, I can only imagine how nice slate would look!

Who is it that makes the hex mosaic tiles…. I understand it comes out of Indonesia. All I know is Mulia out of that area. But I don’t think it is these. If you have a name I would appreciate it.
