Choosing a paint scheme for your modern décor can be an overwhelming task if you don’t know where to start. Most people don’t realize what a huge impact colors have on us and this is why a poorly planned out color scheme can completely ruin your new décor.

The safe choice and the route chosen by most people is simply to paint everything white. While this works quite well with many modern interiors it might not be what you wanted. You shouldn’t be afraid to experiment with color but there are a few basic principles that you need to understand before you get started.

The key is moderation. Just because you like a certain color doesn’t mean that you should paint everything in that color, or splashing a different color on every wall. The best technique is to add just a splash of color in a key point. A good example of this would be to have an all white room with just one wall painted in a bright bold color. This is often enough to fill the entire room with color yet restraining its use to just one wall will prevent it from overwhelming you (and anyone else) when you walk into the room.

Another popular technique is to paint all the walls except one in a very light hue of your chosen color and the last wall in a deeper shade. This technique is very popular since it allows you to paint the entire room in your chosen color but also provides you with the focal point of the one strongly colored wall without overwhelming everything else.

Basically, the important thing to remember is to keep this simple and never forget that moderation is key. Simple ideas and implementation of those ideas is often the best way to achieve what you want.
