One of my favorite pieces of furniture, the Wiggle Chair, also has a smaller stool to accompany it.

These pieces have to be the ultimate expression of creativity. If there was ever an example of creating something extraordinary from ordinary materials, this is it.

This Wiggle Stool gives attractive accent to any interior. Also it is available in two versions: natural hardboard edges and white painted hardboard edges.

Tokyo-Pop small stool / table

This piece comes from Tokujin Yoshioka’s Tokyo-Pop Collection (2002). Injection-molded polyethylene stool/table is suited both for indoor and outdoor use. Its lines were defined by the proportions of human body.

A very useful piece of furniture, it can serve as eye candy, a bedside table, regular side table, a footrest, etc. Your imagination is all that’s limiting you with this piece.

Yoshioka, Designer of the Year 2007, has work in the permanent collections of MoMA and the Pompidou in Paris. This piece can be purchased at DWR

Marble and Walnut Media Unit

Stone and wood, what a nice combination… especially when the materials and proportions are just right.

After buying a new HiFi system, I needed an equally beautiful place to keep it! My old melamine (ikea-style) media cabinet just wasn’t cutting it anymore so I decided to have a furniture builder friend of mine build me this unit.

The unit is made of walnut and walnut veneer on plywood with 3 extra thick marble tiles on top (I bought the marble at the flea market last year so that turned out to be a good buy after all). :)

The design is my own, or at least I think it is… when you look at as many design books/websites as I do (and I’m sure you DO!) it gets hard to tell when ideas are your own or if you’re just pulling things from memory!

LC4 – THE Lounge Chair

When you hear the words “lounge chair” what comes to mind? Perhaps the Barcelona? Maybe the classic Eames?

Well, for most people it’s probably the iconic LC4 Chaise Lounge by LeCorbusier… and probably the black leather version. Yes, it’s a beauty.

I’ve decided to write about the Chaise Lounge today because… I finally broke down and bought one! :)

Like most people (I’m assuming here) I’ve been drooling over several classic pieces and admiring them via my computer monitor and various online retailers but yesterday I walked into a local furniture store and there it was, a near perfect reproduction for about the same price as the online stores. In the end I went for the pony hide as I find it considerably more comfortable (yes, I was surprised about that) and it looks much better in real life than in pictures.

It should arrive in a couple of days since I didn’t feel like picking it up myself and to my surprise, my wife showed no signs of being upset about the purchase! ;)

Multifunctional furniture

Well, to tell you the truth this piece is more of a classic bench/bedside table than really multifunctional furniture… but it’s more a matter of perspective than anything else.

First, an introduction, this is the Topanga Bench by David Brunicardi… isn’t it lovely? Now, image this is YOUR bench… where would it go? What would you do with it? I can think of at least three places to put it in my apartment and a couple of uses as well. So maybe it is multifunctional after all. :)

The Topanga Bench is made of sustainable Douglas Fir laminates and lets you feel good about helping the environment while you admire your modern interior. Good combination.
