Oh yes, the name sounds naughty and you might even be embarrassed to say it in public; but don’t be, it’s a design icon of the 1990s… and makes a delicious glass of orange juice!

Yes! The Juicy Salif by Philippe Starck for Alessi is a design icon of the 1990s and is often purchased and displayed as a sculpture rather than for it’s intended use as a juicer. I can’t really blame anyone for wanting to show it off, it’s a nice piece.

There’s no need to display it on the mantel or on a shelf though, it’s aluminum construction will hold up well to repeated juicing and it will look better in the kitchen anyway. Not to mention the fact that you can get one for under $100 at any number of online retailers… if you’re interested in buying one, click here.

Go ahead, treat yourself to a new piece of design, and a glass of fresh juice!

Of course, this means more things in your homes entry and potential for clutter! Well, it’s Eames to the rescue… :)

The Eames Hang-it-All is a quirky wall mounted coat hanger (and scarfs, hats, backpacks, etc) that will help you keep order in your home… it also adds a touch of mid-century modern to any space. Mount it down low for the kids if you like, they’re sure to love the bright colors, and you’re sure to love the fact that they hang their things up where they belong.

This clock combines playfulness and sophistication in a timeless design (excuse the pun). It can be hung vertically or horizontally, but either way you can be sure of one thing, this one will catch eyes.

This creative chair is made from steam bent hardwood and an industrial felt cover… and to be honest, it looks pretty comfortable! The price at the time of writing is $250 USD from their website.

It looks like it only comes in grey, which is a bit of a bummer considering it’s a children’s chair, bolder colors would have been a good option.

Today I came across this dining table…

It’s called the Maru dining table (by greentea design) and it’s made of solid 3″ thick reclaimed wood planks, over a 100 years old. I don’t know whether to classify it as old or new… I’m leaning towards new and modern because these pieces definitely show a sleek modern line and their Asian inspiration. They look great!

Another benefit is the fact that they are made from reclaimed wood so there are no additional trees being cut down for their production, so on top of being unique and beautiful, these tables are very green… and while they’re not the cheapest tables on the market, they’re not expensive either (especially considering how massive and sturdy they look) so maybe we’ll even see a few pop up in the design magazines. (just remember you saw them here first)!

Well, for most people it’s probably the iconic LC4 Chaise Lounge by LeCorbusier… and probably the black leather version. Yes, it’s a beauty.

I’ve decided to write about the Chaise Lounge today because… I finally broke down and bought one! :)

Like most people (I’m assuming here) I’ve been drooling over several classic pieces and admiring them via my computer monitor and various online retailers but yesterday I walked into a local furniture store and there it was, a near perfect reproduction for about the same price as the online stores. In the end I went for the pony hide as I find it considerably more comfortable (yes, I was surprised about that) and it looks much better in real life than in pictures.

It should arrive in a couple of days since I didn’t feel like picking it up myself and to my surprise, my wife showed no signs of being upset about the purchase! ;)
